National Police Air Service

Supporting London from above.

Who we are

The National Police Air Service operates a fleet of Eurocopter 135s, Eurocopter 145s and Vulcanair P68s that have an average speed of 166mph. Being able to move so quickly enables us to save our colleagues on the ground valuable time when it's needed most. Every day, we work alongside the police in order to keep people, and their communities, safe.

Our importance

We are essential in carrying out an almost endless amount of tasks, from assisting the police pursue those failing to stop for them to aiding the emergency services in searches for vulnerable missing people. Our aircrafts can search large areas ~20 times faster than any other options and can mean the difference between life and death.

By being in the sky above an incident, we can help to minimise risk to first responders by providing an overhead view of a situation, meaning officers and other emergency workers don't have to go into a scene blind.

Our crews have constant communication with police control rooms which allows for almost immediate operational actions to be taken in order to reduce the risk of harm to everyone.

Finally, when you see (and hear) us in the sky, we are providing a visible and powerful deterrent to crime and ensuring communities that they are safe.
