London Ambulance Service
We're there for London.
Who we are
Based out of several stations including Isleworth, Hanwell and Feltham in the North West Sector, we are the capital's Ambulance Service providing cover for Hounslow, operating a sizeable fleet of Mercedes Sprinter Ambulances, Volkswagen Tiguan and Skoda Octavia Fast Response Units (FRUs) and BMW R1200RT motorcycles> The team is has constant access to the Air Ambulance (HEMS) team, a Hazardous Area Response Team (HART) and the Motorcycle Response Unit (MRU).
Our team
LAS is currently lead by a Clinical Team Manager. The team is mostly made up of Emergency Ambulance Crew (EAC), and Paramedics who have a BSc (Hons) in Paramedic Science. Some can go on to study further content and join the team of our Advanced Paramedic Practitioners (Critical Care), who are able to attend critically ill and injured patients to offer more advanced treatment, including extra drugs and procedures.
What we do
We work closely with London's Air Ambulance Service (HEMS) who can provide Clinicians with intense training in Emergency Medicine, specialising in Critical Care. For example, they can utilise their fleet of helicopters, or otherwise ground vehicles, so that some of our most critical patients can be seen by a Doctor within minutes and receive the best care possible.
We also work alongside the Hazardous Area Response Team (HART) in order to attend calls in dangerous areas. The team is made up of Paramedics allowing those in need to get vital care.
The Motorcycle Response Unit (MRU) is also staffed by fully qualified Paramedics. The utilisation of BMW R1200RTs allows the MRU to attend emergencies quickly, even in the congested city of London.
Our Volunteer Responder Group (VRG) is made up of Emergency Responders (ERs) who are trained in first aid with access to more advanced equipment than the general public. They are all volunteers who are there to assist in providing care to those who need it most. They often attend life-threatening calls, such as cardiac arrests, and with the use of their Volkswagen Tiguans, they are usually the first on scene.
Description
The London Ambulance Service (LAS) is there for over eight million people all-year-round - whether it's an elderly faller or a patient whose heart has stopped beating, we're there.
