Taskforce

Supporting the Front line of London.

Who we are

MO7: Taskforce. We are a command of specialist officers who's main role it to Support Front line policing. Encompassing The Territorial Support Group (TSG), Dog Support Unit (DSU) and Marine Support Unit (MSU), we bring highly trained specialists and equipment where it is needed throughout the Community. We operate in small to medium sized teams depending on specific role and task, from single crewed Dog handlers to Section and PSU sized TSG units deployed for Public Order situations. We deliver Method of Entry where required anywhere across the Community and will also police any Chemical, Biological, Radioactive or Nuclear (CBRN) threat or incident and work hand in hand with our colleagues in MO19 to ensure that a large scale Firearms incident can be met with larger pool of Authorised Firearms officers. We deploy Dog support to the Officers on the front line, be it Drugs dogs, General Purpose dogs, or even Specialist Explosive dogs, we get them to where they need to be and then work with them to ensure their skills and training are always at the forefront of Frontline Policing. We also deploy the Marine Support unit, getting to places where other units cant, be it around the docks or inland rivers and when there using specially trained scuba officers to ensure that anywhere WLRPC needs to get to, it can. .

Our Team

The Team is currently headed by Superintendent Barker with 2 Sergeants also assisting in command. The team is small but growing and contains officers who each have their own areas of expertise. All officers who enter the division are trained in the very basics, Public Order level 2, Public Order Level 1, Taser, Response and Carrier driving, Method of Entry, CBRN defence and can then opt to specialise as either a Specialist Public Order Officer, a Dog Handler or Marine support Specialist. Certain officers are also selected to complete Authorised Firearms Training with MO19, this will enable them to utalise these skills when required and deploy with or in aid of Firearms. Training is intense and is not just handed out. If you are interested in the developmental side of policing and want to be someone who supports the guys and girls of Emergency Response, then Taskforce is for you.

Our Equipment

We currently deploy in marked and unmarked assets. These will be carriers, Dog Vans, Rigid and non-rigid Boats as well as unmarked vehicles when the situation calls for it. We patrol in standard patrol uniform for the majority of our work (note the long sleeves!) but when on DSU or MPU duty, will utalise 'Blues' that being dark blue shirt and trousers and baseball caps. Dog Handlers and officers currently undertaking a Firearms Role will usually wear Ballistic Metvests and Firearms clothing may also be used. Public order protective uniform is also used when in a public order environment, though you may often recognise TSG officers as they will be wearing hooded coveralls with Peaked Caps over the top! Standard beat equipment is pretty much the same as ERPT, with the added bonus of Rigid Acrylic batons for public order, and the X2 Taser for officers.
